Not Dead Yet
Hey! I'm still here! Promise!
For some reason I just haven't been stoked into writing anything
lately. The one week I've got a good excuse for was the
12th-19th, when I was in New Orleans. but past
that it's pretty just my own lethargy that's kept things this quiet.
I've got a file at home of ideas to write about, that I started over
a year ago. I need to mail it to myself so I'll have a little seedfarm
of ideas to get myself rolling.
Gads I'm tired. Tired tired. The new Babylon 5 spin-off
has started, and I really was excited with the idea of being
with this one from the start, and not have to try to figure out from
web pages or whatever who the characters were, what important story
bits I'd missed to that point, etc. I've had a shitty track record
so far, though. I managed to catch the sort-of lead in movie A Call to
Arms, and the first episode (War Zone)
when they first aired, but I was in New Orleans for the second episode
(I think I'll cool it with the linkage for the moment), and I missed
the third episode because... um, I have no idea. But I missed it.
I've since seen them on tape, though (More or less. The tape was
missing the little intro bit that started off the second episode,
which apparently featured a rather impressive looking dragon).
Anyway, episode 4 was last night. Crusade (the title for the
spin-off. Geez this is a disjointed entry) usually airs at 10PM,
Wednesday nights. Last night was the NBA draft. Now, I like
basketball quite a bit. I follow the season about as well as I can
with only the web for sports news. But I think that watching the draft
is about as interesting as watching paint dry if you're not related to
someone who's supposed to be selected as one of the top ten picks. I
like the game of basketball. The business of basketball
just lacks some of the appeal.
Anyway, Crusade is delayed until 11:30PM. Well, that's what the
TV Guide says. In reality, it doesn't start until midnight. We have
no idea if the person who regularly tapes the shows knows that it's two
hours later than usual. So I decide I'll try to tape it, and sit up
and watch it, too.
Did I mention Crusade is an hour long show? Well, it is.
So I stumble into bed around 1AM (the episode itself is about 2 1/2
stars. Nice background information, but overall... just seemed to have
a lack of dramatic tension for the scenes set in the present.). And
the alarm goes off at a little after 6AM. And Liz and I recently
decided (well, Liz decided, but we're a couple and all) that whoever's
turn it was to make lunches also gets the task of Getting Up, Letting
the Cat In, and Feeding Him. I think Liz just got fed up with always
being the first one up in the morning, and devised a crafty scheme to
split it up some. She's sneaky. So, anyway, I got to crawl out of
bed, let the cat in, feed him, and make lunches. 5 hours sleep. Bleah.
I can get by on 6, and have done so before. Today I'm just not quite
all there. As you may be able to tell by this rather extensive,
rambly paragraph. Go figure.
So today I'm re-introducing myself to caffineated soft drinks (I'd more
or less stopped before), and trying to stay alert. It's not helping
that it's a gray day outside, and my officemates have been out of the
office for most of the day, leaving me to stare at my monitor and try
to not zone out too badly.
Liz is starting up a AD&D game every other Saturday. Well,
actually, the way July is beginning to look, it'll start sometime in
August. But anyway, she's starting a game. I'm looking forward to
it -- for a long time it felt like I was the only wacko left who
actually still enjoyed playing AD&D, instead of a more
"mature" system like the Vampire/Werewolf, Shadowrun, etc.
I'll be playing a dwarven priest in a party were all but one of the
other characters are elven or half-elven. Could be interesting,
especially since I'm the only priest in the party. I'm trying
to decide whether it'd be proper in his belief system to give
non-bigots preferential treatment when it comes to doling out the
healing. We'll see. >:-)
After thinking about it off and on for about, oh, six seconds this
afternoon, I think that this journal might start getting a little
more geeky. Not like it wasn't there before. But I may start
bouncing up and down a little more about a comic book I read, or
a TV show (yeah, Crusade's gonna be it for a while), without
worrying too much about people tuning it out. I think. I don't know.
Running on reduced sleep, I'm a little more chattery and such than
usual. We'll see. It's quite possible that I lapse into
sedated contentment again, and this continues to get sporadic, brief
updates.
We'll see, though.
