S-s-s-smokin'!

Well, geez. Another long gap in me writing. It's these long stretches that keep me from joining a ring like Open Pages. (You know, if you're reading this, odds are you've seen Open Pages icons about a jillion times already, and don't need me providing a link to it. What can I say, I like typing HREF)

I actually was going to do an entry last week. I had this great idea for a page that would provide descriptions for people and places I mention in here, and I could mock it up to look something like the program for a play. So I wrote the basic code, started writing it, got about six names into it... and stopped. Those are all the people I've mentioned so far in the journal. Ugh. So I dropped it. Maybe I'll pick it back up later.

On Friday or so, Liz had this pie recipe that she really wanted to try (I think she's reveling in being off her diet while she's sick, not that I really blame her for it...). So she made the pie. At one point KT, Jeff, Liz and I were sitting around (yes, I'm trying to mention names so I can fill up that page I was just talking about. These aren't the droids you're looking for. Move along) and KT looked up and sniffed. "It's burning," she said. A few seconds later, the scent wafted around the corner to me. "I smell it too," I said. Liz hurried into the kitchen. The topping stuff had melted quite nicely (as it was supposed to), but then dripped off the pie and onto the heating coil (as it was not supposed to). But the pie was done about 3 minutes later, and it was put in the fridge to cool, and I promptly forgot about it.

Until I was making dinner last night, and smoke started to pour out of the oven.

A/C off, windows open, ceiling fan on, stove vent on full-blast, the battery in the smoke alarm removed as a precaution, candles lit... still a lot of smoke. The apartment was hazy for hours afterwards. Still, it was pretty good pie, especially if you reheated it. I don't know what kind of whacko it was that recommended it be eaten cold, but I think there must have been something fundamentally wrong with him. Reheated, it was a great pie.

Well, crap. I can't think of what I was going to say. Come back in a few days for a long misdirected rambling about Bill Hicks and the government. It'll be a load of fun, trust me.
