SHUT UP!
The Phantom Menace was
released today, at 12:01AM. And now I have something to say to anyone
who has seen it.
SHUT UP!
I've talked before about how I hate it
when people give away plot points to movies that I want to see. To
this day I find it extremely irritating that I knew when I walked into
the theater to see T2 that I already knew Ah-nuld was on the side of
the good guys. It rendered the whole opening part of the movie
useless. All of the bits with Arnie and the cop-guy looking around
to find John Conner were pointless. If I didn't know Arnold was there
to protect John Conner, the scenes build tension. Since I knew, it
was filler. I don't like filler.
On the radio today, the DJs inane chatter was about those crazy loons
who went to see the movie at 2AM, 3AM, etc. I wanted to call in and
ask what sports freaks would be doing if the Superbowl was back for
the first time in 16 years. You wanna see some seriously
obsessive-compulsive behavior on display? That'd give it to you in
spades. And people probably wouldn't mock it a tenth as much as
they've made fun of the Star Wars fans who waited in line for a month
for tickets. I mean, why not just watch the Superbowl on videotape?
It's the same game, right? It's not diminished by the fact that it's
already happened, right?
I'm feeling a little grouchy today, in case you hadn't noticed. My
stomach has been a little upset all morning. It's gotten better, but
I'm still not feeling completely up to snuff.
So anyway, the DJs were chattering about Star Wars. They get to live,
though, since they didn't spill anything. Then I got to work. Some
guys across the hall were talking about Star Wars. I wasn't sure if
it was a Star Wars movie or a Star Wars game, but I
didn't want to take a chance, so I started playing a CD, with the
volume pegged high enough that I couldn't hear what they were (rather
loudly) talking about.
I feel like from now until Friday night (when Liz and I are going to
see the movie) I'm better of not getting on the Web, reading Usenet,
listening to the radio, or watching TV because of the number of people
who don't seem to care about whether or not they spoil the movie for
anyone else. The big stupid-heads.
