I ADMIT IT ALREADY! I read comic books. I even have enough
self-confidence that I won't hide that fact behind a tawdry euphimism by
calling them something like graphic novels, serial publications, or
illustrated literature. They're comic books. However, I like comic
books that aren't quite the ideal of most people's vision of a comic
book reader -- that being of course the 13-15 year old boy desperately
seeking a vision of bosoms.
My current pull list includes:
FAANS,
Astro City,
Books of Magic,
Poison
Elves,
Thieves & Kings,
Johnny the Homicidal
Maniac,
Transmetropolitan,
Heart of
Empire: The Legacy of Luther Arkwright,
Usagi Yojimbo,
Bone,
Starchild,
Book of Ballads and Sagas,
Mage,
Concrete,
Sin City,
Planetary,
The
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,
100 Bullets,
Hellblazer,
The Authority,
and
Knights of the Dinner Table.
Here's links to some of my other favorites...
- I've started my own Thieves and Kings page. Hop on
by and take a look!
- While it doesn't exactly fall into the description of a comic
book, I'm enough of a geek that I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I
failed to mention Dilbert. Look around all
the sub-pages at the site, he's got some really funny stuff buried deep
down.
- Poison Elves is a dark fantasy book written and drawn by Drew Hayes
that I've gotten really interested in lately. If you'd like to learn
more, you can visit the
official page of the company that publishes it, or you might enjoy a
highly recommended fan page.
- Fight the evil forces of darkness!! If you like that sort of
sentiment, and don't mind a heaping shovelful of spoofing with your
superheroes, than investigate THE TICK here. If you want Tick stuff,
check out the New England Comics
homepage.
- If there's a title, writer, company, artist, or character you wanted
to find information on, try seeing if it's at the index over at Wraithspace. The site is
extensive, but it does have a strong bias toward "alternative"
works.
- An interesting comic book store site is Now and Then Books.
They have an extensive set of links from comic titles to pages about the
title, which makes finding information about a title much easier than
randomly hitting search engines.
