About our Local Chapter

 Our objective is to provide recreational, social, educational and self-advocacy activities for people with mental retardation in James City County, York County, Williamsburg, and Poquoson.

We schedule and hold several activities monthly over a variety of nights,days, and times.  We vary the activities to capture a wide variety of interests.  We also sponsor public service ads to educate the community about retardation and related disabilities.

We strive to make our activities:

  • Safe, comfortable, and fun
  • A learning experience
  • An opportunity for socialization with others (those with and without disabilities) in the community
  • An introduction to new geographic areas and areas of interest
  • Self-esteem and self-worth enriching
  • An opportunity for individual decision making
